ILLUSTRATION: 2 Truths 1 Lie – Which of the following 3 statements is a lie?
1 Kings 19:11-12 - The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
Let’s go back to our opening Scripture.
John 10:27 - My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. / Mis ovejas oyen mi voz; yo las conozco y ellas me siguen.
John 5:30 - By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
2 KINGS 3
With Elijah out of the scene, we are now called to consider the national affairs of Israel, in which we find ____________ involved. When Ahaziah died, his brother Joram became the king of Israel. Being a son of Ahab and Jezabel, he was hardly a godly man, although he did some good things.
John 2:1-11 - On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Imagine that you’re about to make the official announcement: You’re running for President. You would probably choose your first public presentation with enormous care.
Luke 12:7 - Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
You may be familiar with the story of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Explain…
John 8:10-11 - Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.” Ahora vete, y no vuelvas a pecar.
Smear Campaign = A plan to discredit a public figure by making false or dubious accusations.
The symbolism of the tree of knowledge can be understood by the serpent’s promise: “By eating from this tree, you will be making your own decision. You will be like God, determining for yourself what is right and what is wrong.”
Make Jesus Lord! Jesus for President.
God reveals himself in so many ways. Through Scripture, through creation, through the church, through life experiences and more. In Scripture He uses many metaphors.
John 12:46 - I have come into the world as a ________, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.
God put an image in our galaxy to demonstrate what Christ is to us. We call it the SUN.
The second is WATER:
John 7:37-38 - On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is ________ come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of __________ water will flow from within them.”
John 4:15-18 - The woman said to him, “Sir, ________ me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” 16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” 17 “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
He’s talking about a deep soul satisfaction that doesn’t depend on what is happening outside of us.
In the next few verses Jesus responds saying in essence, “The time is coming when there will no need for a physical temple in order to have access to God.”
Then Jesus drops the bomb.
John 4:26 - Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—_________ he.”
My guess is that everybody here can IDENTIFY with the adulteress, Nicodemus, or somewhere in between.
Imagine that a widow has a son she raises and puts through school and a good university with much sacrifice. And after the young man graduates from college he goes off into his career and life – and doesn’t spend time with his mother anymore.
When asked about it he replies, “I don’t have anything to do with her personally. But I turned out to be a good son of hers. I’m honest, I work hard, I help the poor, I’ve lived a good life – that’s all that matters isn’t it?”
